South Canterbury DFAS was started in 1989 when the waiting list for Canterbury DFAS became too long. From the beginning we have had a full membership and waiting list, though in recent years a more benevolent attitude has been taken to admitting new members. Meetings are normally held on every third Monday of the month and from March 2013 will be held at The Old Sessions House, Canterbury Christ Church University, Canterbury (pictured on our banner above). Members usually arrive from 6.45 p.m. to enjoy coffee and socialise. Lectures start at 7.30 p.m. and finish just over an hour later. There is the opportunity for early arrivers to have coffee or tea before the meeting. This offers an ideal opportunity for members to discuss the lecture. Our banner photo shows the entrance of the Old Sessions House, where we meet. Enter the glass doors and turn left, or enter from the car park at the rear via a wheelchair-accessible ramp and follow the signs. (Map)
Our present membership is 300 and there is currently a waiting list. Guests and those prospective members on the waiting list are welcome at our meetings. The charge is £5 each per meeting. Non-members are also welcome at Special Interest Days and on Outings when places are available. However, due to high demand, it has been necessary to restrict guests’ and prospective members’ attendance to three society events per year.
